About Dr. Tyler
Dr. Kelvin Tyler Jr. is a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina and a National Certified Counselor. He is the owner of Hope Counseling Services of Charleston, LLC, where he works primarily with adults and provides care for clients who struggle with anxiety, trauma, adjustment disorders, and self-esteem. He has extensive experience with Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). His treatment approach is rooted in evidence-based practices. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling and a Doctorate Degree in Community Care and Counseling from Liberty University.
His main goals for clients include empowering them to live fully alive and thrive purposefully. He believes clients can achieve optimal mental health through collaborative support and compassion. He is inspired by the strength and resilience of his clients and wants to empower them to continue to grow into their best selves. His clinical work includes multi-cultural therapy for individuals, groups, and families of all ages. He also provides clinical and administrative supervision to practicing clinicians. Through consultation, Dr. Tyler supports other clinicians with general counseling needs and various mental health topics, including dual diagnosis. A researcher, he has researched the impacts of trauma on veteran populations.
Dr. Kelvin Tyler Jr. is deeply committed to making a positive impact in the community, particularly in deconstructing the stigma surrounding mental health. He offers engaging and educational workshops and trainings on mental health, and has been invited to speak at various church and community events, radio and talk shows, schools, and mental health centers. He has also developed an anxiety course that educates people about the signs and symptoms and provides practical interventions. Currently, he is expanding his knowledge of the impacts of multigenerational trauma. In his free time, he enjoys football, boxing, and traveling. He accepts insurance from Cigna and Aetna.
