Her work focuses on clients with anxiety, depression, disruptive behaviors, relationship issues, self-esteem challenges, and trauma. She is trained in TF-CBT, EMDR, certified in Art Therapy, and Gottman Couples Therapy Levels I and II. Art therapy is a key tool she uses, especially for trauma, including generational trauma.

Shama values authenticity and transparency, identifying as a therapist with lived experience (TLE). Her approach blends mindfulness, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral techniques, emphasizing the use of support systems, community resources, and mindfulness. She founded Disruptive Thinking Counselling to offer services to individuals aged 8 and up, couples, and groups.  Shama believes in the uniqueness of each person's story and its impact on their current experiences. Cultural considerations are integral to her practice as she helps individuals envision and achieve the life they desire.
